Malaysia's manufacturing industry operates at 82.1 % capacity in Q2
Capacity utilisation rose by 1.3 percentage points from the previous quarter.
The manufacturing industry in Malaysia saw an increase in capacity utilisation to 82.1% in the second quarter of 2024, marking a 3.8 percentage point growth from the previous year.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia reported that all sub-sectors within the manufacturing industry operated at capacity utilisation rates above 80%.
Transport equipment and other manufacturers lead at 86%, followed closely by textiles, wearing apparel, leather, and footwear at 82.8%; and non-metallic mineral products, basic metal, and fabricated metal products at 82.3%.
Compared to the previous quarter, there was a 1.3 percentage point increase in capacity utilisation.
This rise in utilisation was also evident in the 4.9% growth of the Industrial Production Index for the manufacturing industry from the same period last year.
