Indonesia’s computer market increases by 17.9% YoY in Q2 2024
It also recorded a 6.1% growth QoQ.
Indonesia's PC market grew by 17.9% year-on-year (YoY) to 953,000 units and 6.1% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) of combined desktops, notebooks, and workstations shipped in Q2 2024, according to the International Data Corporation's (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.
The YoY growth was attributed to the 28.7% YoY surge in the consumer segment after the government lifted import restrictions that required importers to reapply for all import licenses for certain commodities, one of which is notebooks.
"Import restrictions that were expected to hamper the Indonesia PC Market growth did not prove to be the case, as shipments continued to show a positive trend over the year for the first two quarters in 2024," said Theodorus Adiatma, senior market analyst, IDC Indonesia.
ASUS recorded the highest with 227,400 units shipped in Q2 2024, whilst Lenovo and Acer Group followed with 211,400 and 179,000 units, respectively.
Meanwhile, the commercial segment showed a 3.6% YoY decline due to the government switching its focus to hold concurrent executive and legislative elections.
Apart from that, the decline in education shipments was due to the changes in the management of the Ministry of Education's (MOE) Chromebook orders, which were previously handled centrally but were recently handed over to each province through the distribution of the Ministry’s Special Allocation Fund.
PC shipments to the education segment decreased due to regional governments utilising the funds for their needs and were not limited to spending on Chromebooks and IT devices only.
