AI computer shipments to surge 165% by 2025, hitting 114 million units
AI computers are set to gain 26 percentage points in global shipment share from 2024 to 2025.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered computers are poised to dominate the market, with shipments projected to hit 114 million units by 2025, a 165.5% increase over the previous year, according to Gartner.
By 2026, AI laptops will be the only choice available to large businesses, up from less than 5% in 2023, it added.
Gartner projected shipments in 2024 to hit 43 million units, representing a 99.8% increase from 2023. Ranjit Atwal, senior director analyst at Gartner, expects neural processing units will be standard for computer vendors as they integrate with most computers.
AI computers will account for 43% of all shipments by 2025, up from 17% in 2024, with AI laptops expected to make up 51% of total laptop shipments.
Businesses are recognising the inevitability of AI in their future operations, with the question shifting from whether to buy to which AI computer best suits their needs, said Atwal.
However, he noted that whilst businesses are unlikely to pay extra for AI features, they will choose AI computers for future-proofing and enhanced security.
